A394 Helston - new access road

We are near RNAS Culdrose, on the A3083, which has the honour of being Britain's most southerly classified road. On the left hand side of the road here is the Culdrose airfield, complete with a golf course at the end of the runway. The giant golf ball on the right is, in fact, some kind of radar station. Actually, it may not be that, but can you think of a better explanation that doesn't involve giant golf clubs?
